Firing your sculpture is one of the most important steps in finalizing your piece. It is important that you have the proper equipment, but even more important that you fully understand the correct baking temperatures for the clay you are working with as well as time. Under baked pieces are a quick way to get Collector's very upset as it can cause breakage, crumbling and discoloration. Over baking a piece can cause darkening, cracking and brittleness in fingers or other delicate areas. So, it's a VERY important thing to make sure you research and experiment with your equipment before firing a sculpture you worked on for days, weeks or even months. More coming very soon on this subject, including tutorials, tips and resources. |
